This increase in mosquito... irmcd http://irmosquito.org Due to recent rains, mosquito populations within the Indian River Mosquito Control District (IRMCD) have been high and are expected to increase over the coming weeks. This increase in mosquito numbers includes both pest species as well as those capable of transmitting diseases.

IRMCD has been responding to our recent mosquito numbers by spraying with our fleet of Ultra-Low-Volume (ULV) spray trucks. However in portions of Indian River County, high mosquito numbers and the inaccessibility of some areas calls for the anticipated need to conduct aerial adulticiding with a twin-engine aircraft to provide adequate control. Consequently, IRMCD has scheduled an aerial adulticiding with naled (=Dibrom) applied at the rate of 0.40 fluid ounces per acre for the evening of Monday, October 17, weather permitting.

Naled is the same material used safely in previous IRMCD aerial adulticiding flights and is regularly used statewide. When spraying is conducted, it will occur between 2 hours after dusk and prior to dawn. IRMCD encourages interested parties to call our office for specific information at 772-562-2393.

Please be aware that aerial spraying only kills flying mosquitoes which come in contact with the spray and it does not have a residual effect. Also, spraying is not equally effective against all mosquito species. Consequently, you need to continue to protect yourself from mosquito bites.
